HL Deb 06 July 1976 vol 372 c1222

Lord KENNET asked Her Majesty's Government:

Whether the International Atomic Energy Agency Working Party set up following the Non-Proliferation Treaty Review Conference to evaluate the safety and usefulness of peaceful nuclear explosions has reported; and whether the recent United States/Soviet Union Agreement on Peaceful Nuclear Explosions satisfies the expert international opinion expressed within the IAEA.

Lord GORONWY-ROBERTS

The International Atomic Energy Agency's Ad Hoc Advisory Group on Nuclear Explosions for Peaceful Purposes held a series of meetings from 31st May to 11 th June but is not expected to report to the Agency's Board of Governors before February 1977. The IAEA has not commented on the Treaty between the United States of America and the Union of the Soviet Socialist Republics on Underground Nuclear Explosions for Peaceful Purposes which was signed on 28th May.
