HL Deb 06 July 1976 vol 372 cc1138-9
Lord BARNBY

My Lords, I beg leave to ask the Question which stands in my name on the Order Paper.

The Question was as follows:

To ask Her Majesty's Government what information our representative in Mozambique remits as being the approximate population of the concentration camps at Inhassune and Masacaze; whether permission is being given for visits by the International Red Cross; and whether Her Majesty's Government regard the Press reports of a total of some 40,000 political detainees in all prison camps in Mozambique as reliable.

The MINISTER of STATE, FOREIGN and COMMONWEALTH OFFICE (Lord Goronwy-Roberts)

My Lords, this information is not available to us. Inquiries concerning visits by the International Committee of the Red Cross should more properly be addressed to them. So far as I know, the Answer to that part of the noble Lord's Question is, No.
