HL Deb 13 February 1975 vol 356 cc1420-1
Lord CAMPBELL of CROY

My Lords, I beg leave to ask the Question which stands in my name on the Order Paper.

The Question was as follows:

To ask Her Majesty's Government what representation they have received from bodies representing Scottish agriculture about the effects of their taxation proposals upon the future of the farming industry.

Lord JACQUES

My Lords, Her Majesty's Government have received representation about the capital transfer tax from several such bodies, including the National Farmers' Union and the Scottish Land Owners' Federation.

Lord CAMPBELL of CROY

My Lords, is the noble Lord aware that the Scottish National Farmers' Union have made clear that unless modifications are made, going well beyond what the Government have already announced, there is great danger of irreparable damage to the Scottish farming industry?

Lord JACQUES

My Lords, I am not aware that that body has made such a statement. I do not think they have good grounds for it.

Lord CAMPBELL of CROY

My Lords, the wording is as issued in one of their Press releases. Will the Minister please look at it if I send him a copy?
