HL Deb 20 June 1974 vol 352 c1039
THE CHAIRMAN OF COMMITTEES (THE EARL OF LISTOWEL)

My Lords, I beg to move that this Report be now agreed to.

Moved, That the Second Report from the Select Committee be agreed to.—(The Earl of Listowel.)

The Commitee's Report was as follows:

1. PARLIAMENT OFFICE

The Committee received reports:—

  1. (a) from the Leader of the House in regard to the resignation of the Clerk of the Parliaments and the appointment of a successor by the Queen, and the resignation also of the Clerk Assistant; and
  2. (b) from the Lord Chancellor in regard to certain consequential appointments which he proposed to make to Clerkships at the Table, and for which he would shortly seek the approval of the House.

The Committee took note with approval that all these appointments had been the subject of wide consultation in accordance with the personal undertakings given by a former Lord Chancellor and the then Leader of the House (Third Report dated 17th July, 1973, item 2).

The Committee sanctioned the payment to Mr. R. W. Perceval, Clerk Assistant, on his resignation, of the appropriate pension and lump sum under the 1972 Pension Scheme, together with compensation for premature retirement, and thanked him for his services to the House.

2. EUROPEAN COMMUNITIES COMMITTEE: LEGAL ADVISER

The Committee sanctioned the creation, for one year in the first instance, of a new post of Second Counsel to the Chairman of Committees for the purpose of providing legal advice to the European Communities Committee.

The Committee were informed of the appointment of Sir Charles Sopwith to the post.

On Question, Motion agreed to.
