Clause 57, page 51, line 10, leave out "(2) This Act" and insert—
(2) The following provisions of this Act shall come into force on the passing of this Act, namely sections 1, 5 to 10, 14 to 21. 23 to 26, 29, 30, 41 (so far as it is applied by sections 16 and 18) (Provision for early retirement in lieu of compensation for loss of office), 46 to 48, 50 to 56 and this section, Schedules 1 and 2, paragraphs 22, 74, 125A, 128A, 135 and 136 of Schedule 4 and the entry in Schedule 5 relating to section 36(3)(c) of the principal Act.
(2A) The provisions of this Act which do> not come into force in pursuance of the preceding subsection
§ LORD ABERDAREMy Lords, this Amendment brings certain provisions of the Bill into operation at Royal Assent. Other provisions will come into force on days appointed by order. It is intended that the main appointed day should be April 1 1974, when the main provisions 1787 of the Local Government Act 1972 come into force. The Health Service Commissioner provisions will be brought into operation at an earlier date, which is still under consideration. I beg to move.
