HL Deb 24 July 1973 vol 344 cc1767-8

[No. 7] Schedule 3, page 6, line 46, leave out from "member" to end of line 47.

BARONESS YOUNG

My Lords, I beg to move Amendment No. 7. This Amendment concerns the grounds on which the Secretary of State may remove a member of the Nature Conservancy Council from membership. In paragraph 6 of Schedule 3 are given the reasons because of which the Secretary of State may remove a member of the Nature Conservancy Council from membership. Although the words deleted by this Amendment were contained in the New Towns Act in relation to membership of the New Town Development Corporations, and in the Land Commission Act 1967 in relation to membership of the Land Commission, my right honourable friend accepted the view expressed in Standing Committee in another place that the other grounds on which a member could be removed were sufficiently wide to cover the kind of circumstances in which the Secretary of State should have power to remove a member. I beg to move that this House doth agree with the Commons in their Amendment No. 7.

Moved, That this House doth agree with the Commons in the said Amendment.—(Baroness Young.)
