HL Deb 29 March 1972 vol 329 c1052

2.40 p.m.

LORD NUNBURNHOLME

My Lords, I beg leave to ask the Question which stands in my name on the Order Paper.

[The Question was as follows:

To ask Her Majesty's Government whether they are contemplating imposing an export tax on the export of fat cattle, sheep and pigs; and, if so, whether they will give at least one year's notice of their intentions, thus enabling the trade and farmers to make suitable arrangements.]

EARL FERRERS

My Lords, Her Majesty's Government have no plans for imposing an export tax on fat cattle, sheep and pigs exported from the United Kingdom.

LORD NUNBURNHOLME

My Lords, may I ask Her Majesty's Government whether they will give notice before taking any action in this direction? I find the noble Earl's Answer quite satisfactory.

EARL FERRERS

My Lords, as Her Majesty's Government have no intention of taking this action, they will not of course be able to give any notice of it.
