HL Deb 18 July 1972 vol 333 c670

2.51 p.m.

LORD TREFGARNE

My Lords, I beg leave to ask the Question which stands in my name on the Order Paper.

The Question was as follows:

To ask Her Majesty's Government what is the nature of the work at present being carried out to the Albert Bridge and when they expect the bridge to be reopened.

LORD MOWBRAY AND STOURTON

My Lords, the work consists of the strengthening of the structure by replacement of the timber decking, the provision of a central supporting pier and certain steelwork repairs to the fabric of the bridge. The work is expected to be completed by the summer of next year, but subject to the satisfactory completion of various tests I understand that the bridge should be opened to carry two lanes of traffic by the end of this month.
