HL Deb 18 December 1972 vol 337 cc821-2
LORD ABERDARE

My Lords, I beg to move the Motion standing in my name on the Order Paper.

Moved. That it be an Instruction to the Committee of the Whole House to whom the National Health Service Re-organisation Bill has been committed that they consider the Bill in the following order, viz.:—

BARONESS SEROTA

My Lords, we shall be happy to co-operate in this, as in all other aspects of the passage of this Bill through the House, although some of us have been labouring under considerable difficulties owing to delays in the Christmas post. I should like to ask the noble Lord if he can tell the House whether it has been possible for him to come to some agreement about a slight rearrangement of the Marshalled List, which we have discussed. The problem is that one of the Amendments down to Schedule 1 would pre-empt the general debate on Clause 9, if we were to take it in the order as at present shown on the List.

LORD ABERDARE

I am grateful to the noble Baroness. In fact, I have had words with my noble friend Lady Ruthven of Freeland, and also with the noble Lord, Lord Amulree, and I am grateful for their co-operation. I understand that they are willing not to move their Amendment to Schedule 1, but to wait until we come to the relevant clause, which I think is Clause 9. We can then discuss their Amendment and, if they are not satisfied, they can if they wish put down another Amendment at a later stage.

BARONESS SEROTA

My Lords, I am most grateful to the noble Lord for the action which he has taken, and particularly to the noble Lady, Lady Ruthven, and the noble Lord, Lord Amulree, for helping the House in this way. I am sure that it will facilitate the progress of the debate.

On Question, Motion agreed to.
