HL Deb 18 December 1972 vol 337 c820
LORD DENHAM

My Lords, on behalf of my noble friend the Leader of the House, I beg to move the Motion standing in his name on the Order Paper.

Moved, That Standing Orders No. 38 (Arrangement of the Order Paper) and No. 44 (No two stages of a Bill to be taken on one day) be suspended until the House rises for the Christmas Recess; and that Government business do have, except with the consent of the Government, precedence over other business during the same period.—(Lord Denham.)

LORD TREFGARNE

My Lords, before we pass this Motion, may I ask which item of legislation it is proposed to take on one day?

LORD DENHAM

My Lords, in particular, the Post Office (Borrowing) Bill.

LORD SHEPHERD

My Lords, in view of that question, can the noble Lord be specific? Is that the only Bill for which the noble Lord intends to use this power?

LORD DENHAM

No, my Lords; I cannot say that specifically at the moment.

LORD SHEPHERD

My Lords, perhaps the noble Lord will have words through the unofficial channels to see that we have some clarity on this matter.

LORD DENHAM

Yes, my Lords; I certainly will.

On Question, Motion agreed to.
