HL Deb 26 July 1971 vol 323 cc5-6

LORD JACQUES: My Lords, I beg leave to ask the Question which stands in my name on the Order Paper.

[The Question was as follows:

To ask Her Majesty's Government whether they will consider relating rating valuations to current capital values so that they reflect more accurately, than at present, the age of the property and the position and size of the site.]

LORD MOWBRAY AND STOURTON

My Lords, the question of using capital values for rating assessments is relevant to the Government's current review of local government finance. A Green Paper on the whole subject will be published before the Summer Recess and the Govarnment will consider, in the light of the public discussion and consultations which will follow, what changes should be made.

LORD JACQUES

My Lords, I thank the noble Lord for that reply. I will rest content and await the Green Paper.
