HL Deb 22 November 1967 vol 286 c1041

2.24 p.m.

LORD THURLOW

My Lords, I beg leave to ask the Question which stands in my name on the Order Paper.

[The Question was as follows:

To ask Her Majesty's Government what is the present strength of the Territorial and Army Volunteer Reserves I, II and III and how these strengths compare with their peacetime establishments.]

THE PARLIAMENTARY SECRETARY, MINISTRY OF PUBLIC BUILDING AND WORKS (LORD WINTERBOTTOM)

My Lords, the strength of the Territorial and Army Volunteer Reserve on September 30, 1967, was: Category I, 1,077; Category II, 37,586; Category III, 14,566. These figures represent 64 per cent. and 77 per cent. of establishment and 63 per cent. of the peace-time ceiling, respectively.

LORD THURLOW

My Lords, I thank the noble Lord for his reply. Can he tell me, of the 1.600 required in the A.V.R. I to support United Nations forces in 6 infantry battalions, how many have been recruited?

LORD WINTERBOTTOM

In A.V.R. I, 1,077.
