HL Deb 02 May 1967 vol 282 c812
LORD DRUMALBYN

My Lords, I beg leave to ask the second Question which stands in my name on the Order Paper.

[The Question was as follows:

To ask Her Majesty's Government what would be the cost of increasing family allowances in respect of:

  1. (a) the second and subsequent children;
  2. (b) the third and subsequent children;
  3. (c) the fourth and subsequent children;
  4. (d) the fifth and subsequent children,
for every shilling of such increase (child being given the same meaning as in section 2 of the Family Allowances Act 1945.)]

LORD SORENSEN

My Lords, the estimated annual cost for Great Britain of a shilling increase in family allowances for the second and subsequent children, is £17.4 million; for the third and subsequent children, £6.9 million; for the fourth and subsequent children, £2.7 million; and for the fifth and subsequent children, £1.0 million.

LORD DRUMALBYN

My Lords, I thank the noble Lord for his Answer.
