HL Deb 25 November 1964 vol 261 cc822-3
LORD CARRINGTON

My Lords, I beg leave to ask Her Majesty's Government a Question of which I have given them Private Notice. The Question is: To ask Her Majesty's Government whether they will make a statement about the latest situation in the Congo, with reference to the British subjects involved?

THE LORD PRIVY SEAL (THE EARL OF LONGFORD)

Yes, my Lords. My noble friend Lord Walston will be making a Statement at a suitable moment after 3.30 p.m.

Perhaps I may take this opportunity of informing the House that I myself shall be making a Statement on "Buccaneers", and that my noble friend Lord Shackleton will be making a Statement on trooping contracts—again at a suitable moment after 3.30 p.m.

LORD SOMERS

My Lords, may I ask the noble Earl the Leader of the House whether he would consider it appropriate that this House should join with another place in sending the Belgian people a message of condolence on their great losses?

THE EARL OF LONGFORD

My Lords, I am sure that there will be wide support in all parts of the House for the suggestion of the noble Lord, but perhaps it could be raised when we reach the Statement after half past three.
