HL Deb 07 June 1961 vol 231 c1121

3.5 p.m.

THE CHAIRMAN OF COMMITTEES (LORD MERTHYR)

My Lords, I beg to move the Motion standing in my name on the Order Paper. I think I should apologise for coming again to your Lordships to amend the Private Bill Standing Orders, but, as I said last time, I am anxious that they should be in a form as perfect as possible before they are reprinted. The Order which I now propose should be omitted applies to Bills seeking to construct tram-roads of railways gauge and connected to railways. Your Lordships will understand that Bills of that nature are very rare. The Standing Order imposes upon the Promoters of such Bills certain obligations under Statutes which are set out in the Order. Most, though not all, of those Statutes have now been repealed, and this Order would therefore need to be amended in any event. I am now satisfied that this Order is redundant and unnecessary, and could usefully and properly be omitted altogether. The Minister of Transport has been consulted and concurs. I beg to move.

Moved, That the following Amendment be made to the Standing Orders relative to Private Bills, etc.:— Page 60, leave out Standing Order 136.—(Lord Merthyr.)

On Question, Motion agreed to: the said Standing Order amended accordingly.
