Order of the Day read for the consideration of the Third Report from the Select Committee.

The Committee reported as follows:

1.—REFRESHMENT DEPARTMENT A Report from the Sub-Committee on the Refreshment Department was laid before the Committee. The Committee were informed that Miss M. Riddell had been appointed to succeed Miss Hoath as Superintendent of the Refreshment Department. The Report was agreed to.

2.—REVISION OF ALLOWANCES The Committee approved the application of Establishments Circular No. 18/61, dated 24th April, 1961, providing for the revision of allowances for special duties with effect from 1st January, 1961, to members of the staff of the House of Lords to whom it applied.

3.—HANSARD REPORTING STAFF

  1. (a) The Committee considered the question of an application by a trade union to be granted representative capacity for the Hansard Reporters and agreed that the House of Lords should approach the House of Commons with a view to joint consideration of the matter by both Houses.
  2. (b) The Committee reviewed the agreement with Messrs. H. Craig-Kelly Limited for the supply of typists for the reporting of debates and approved an increase in the rates of pay from 1st April, 1961.

4.—RETIREMENT OF SENIOR CUSTODIAN The Committee sanctioned the payment of a gratuity under the Superannuation Acts to Mr. Arthur Sheppard on his retirement on the 25th August, 1961.

5.—RESIGNATION OF HOUSEMAID The Committee sanctioned the payment of a gratuity under the Superannuation Acts to Miss A. Iggulden who resigned on 6th May, 1961.

6.—PARLIAMENT OFFICE The Committee authorised the appointment of an additional Office Assistant on the Staff of the Department of the Clerk of the Parliaments.

7.—HOUSEMAIDS The Committee sanctioned an increase in the rate of pay of the Housemaids in the Lord Great Chamberlain's Department in accordance with Establishments Circular No. 22/61 (Pay &c. of Cleaners) dated 11th May, 1961.
