HL Deb 25 July 1961 vol 233 c908
VISCOUNT FURNESS

My Lords, I beg leave to ask the Question which stands in my name on the Order Paper.

[The Question was as follows:

To ask Her Majesty's Government whether they will state their policy on the establishment of diplomatic relations between the Mongolian People's Republic and the United Kingdom.]

THE JOINT PARLIAMENTARY UNDER-SECRETARY OF STATE FOR FOREIGN AFFAIRS (THE MARQUESS OF LANSDOWNE)

My Lords, should the Mongolian People's Republic be admitted to the United Nations, Her Majesty's Government would see no objection in principle to extending formal recognition to that Government, if they so desired.

VISCOUNT FURNESS

My Lords, I thank my noble friend for his reply.
