§ LORD GRANTCHESTERMy Lords, with the leave of the House, I should like to make a personal statement. I wish to apologise for and correct an error which I made while speaking in the foreign affairs debate on April 13 last. The title which President de Gaulle carries as President of the Community does not refer, as I stated [OFFICIAL REPORT, Vol. 222 (No. 70), col. 1092], to the new European Community but to the French Community of France and French territories overseas. Of course, this in no way diminishes the importance of the rôle played by the French Head of State in the new European Community.
