§ 2.35 p.m.
§ [The Question was as follows:
§ To ask Her Majesty's Government whether the supplementary question put on Tuesday, May 12, in relation to the fares on some services of B.O.A.C. and others, has been subject to correction for the bound volume of Hansard, and if so, whether they can now give the corrected version, in order that the noble Earl, Lord Gosford's answer may be understood in relation to the question in its correct form.]
THE EARL OF GOSFORDYes, my Lords, in. agreement with the noble Lord, Lord Winster, the supplementary question which was put to me on May 12 in relation to fares on some services of B.O.A.C. and others has been subject to correction in the bound volume of Hansard which now reads as follows:
§ "LORD WINSTERMy Lords, may I ask the noble Earl whether it is not the case that B.O.A.C. and other airlines would wish to reduce the fares on some of the international services but are prevented from doing so by the decisions of I.A.T.A.? B.O.A.C. is actually anxious to reduce some of the fares."
This was as I heard the question, and my answer thereto, which was:
I understand that that is in fact so"remains unaltered.
§ VISCOUNT STANSGATEMy Lords, would it be possible for the noble Earl the Leader of the House at some time to make a short statement showing what Members should do in reference to Reports in Hansard? The reporting is 178 excellent, but sometimes there is a mishearing and one wishes to make a slight correction. What is the correct and accepted procedure for Members to follow?
THE SECRETARY OF STATE FOR COMMONWEALTH RELATIONS (THE EARL OF HOME)My Lords, I should like to examine that, if I may, and communicate with the noble Viscount at a later date.
§ LORD OGMOREMy Lords, on the subject of the original Question, could the noble Earl say what the present position is with reference to fares across the Pacific? Can B.O.A.C. now charge for passengers?
THE EARL OF GOSFORDMy Lords, I regret that, as I had no notice of this supplementary question, I have not the information for which the noble Lord asks. He can, however, put down a further Question, or I will give him an Answer in writing, whichever he prefers.
