HL Deb 07 July 1959 vol 217 c760
LORD WISE

My Lords, I beg to ask the Question which stands in my name on the Order Paper.

[The Question was as follows:

To ask Her Majesty's Government how many schemes for the construction of by-pass roads for Norfolk and Suffolk respectively have been approved but not yet carried out, and in how many instances construction work has not commenced.]

THE EARL OF GOSFORD

My Lords, my right honourable friend has made a grant to the West Suffolk County Council towards their scheme for by-passing Stanton, on the Bury St. Edmunds—Great Yarmouth Road, A.145, on which work is in progress. Two other by-passes are planned, but have not yet been approved—one each in Norfolk and Suffolk. A number of diversions are in progress, and more are planned.

LORD WISE

While thanking the noble Earl for his satisfactory Answer so far as Suffolk is concerned, may I stress the need for the additional by-passes in Norfolk which, I understand, have been put before the Government?
