HL Deb 07 July 1959 vol 217 cc759-60
LORD HAWKE

My Lords, I beg to ask the second Question standing in my name.

[The Question was as follows:

To ask her Majesty's Government when they expect work to be resumed on the Handcross by-pass.]

THE EARL OF GOSFORD

My Lords, work on the Handcross By-pass, including the bridge carrying A.279 across it, has been going ahead continuously since last September. Work on the carriageways had to be interrupted for a time while this bridge was being built, but the bridge is now complete, and it is hoped that one carriageway will be open to traffic in about a month's time.

LORD HAWKE

While thanking the noble Earl for his Answer, may I say how glad the inhabitants of this unfortunate village will be to hear that, at long last, their by-pass is about to be completed?
