HL Deb 18 February 1959 vol 214 cc339-40
LORD STONHAM

My Lords, I beg leave to ask the Question which stands in my name on the Order Paper.

[The Question was as follows:

To ask Her Majesty's Government whether they will now state their plans for facilitating the increased distribution and sale overseas of English books and periodicals, particularly in countries where there are sterling restrictions.]

THE EARL OF HOME

My Lords, the study being carried out by my right honourable friend, the Chancellor of the Duchy of Lancaster, of the many problems connected with the sale overseas of British books and periodicals is now well advanced. A statement will be made as soon as possible, and if I ask the noble Lord to be patient a little longer, I think he will be well rewarded.

LORD STONHAM

My Lords, is the noble Earl aware that I have already been very patient? However, in view of his half-satisfactory answer I will gladly be patient a little longer.
