HL Deb 08 December 1954 vol 190 cc327-8

LORD WINDLESHAM asked Her Majesty's Government whether they will take steps to prevent, or at least heavily to discourage, senior officers of the Services from expressing their political views through the medium of letters to the Press signed by their wives.

THE PARLIAMENTARY SECRETARY, MINISTRY OF DEFENCE (LORD CARRINGTON)

I have no reason to believe that wives nowadays would be likely to allow themselves to be used as a vehicle for their husbands' political opinions.
