HL Deb 27 July 1953 vol 183 c882

Clause 15, page 10, line 10, leave out line 10 and insert— ("(5) In that portion of the Act twenty George the Second, chapter thirty-two, which relates to the right of patronage and presentment of the Principal and the several professors in the United College of St. Salvator and St. Leonard the words "Principal and" where they first occur,")

THE EARL OF HOME

My Lords, this Amendment will have two results. It will repair an omission by repealing the provisions of the Act of 1747 which empower the Crown to appoint the Principal of the United College. In future, he will be appointed by the University Court. Secondly, it will delete the provision repealing Section 5 (5) of the 1899 Act, which places the Rector in the chair of the University Court. I beg to move.

Moved, That this House do agree with the Commons in the said Amendment.—(The Earl of Home.)

On Question, Amendment agreed to.
