HL Deb 03 December 1953 vol 184 c926

3.12 p.m.

VISCOUNT STANSGATE

My Lords, I beg to ask the second Question of which I have given private notice: To ask Her Majesty's Government whether they have approved the reinstatement in the public service of a Kenya official at present undergoing sentence for assaults on African prisoners.

THE EARL OF MUNSTER

My Lords, my right honourable friend has called for a full report from the Kenya and Tanganyika Governments, and until this has been received I am not in a position to make a further statement.

VISCOUNT STANSGATE

I am grateful to the noble Earl. I observed from a report in The Times this morning that the decision had apparently been made locally; but that the Governor should review it is entirely satisfactory.
