HL Deb 01 July 1952 vol 177 c520

2.40 p.m.

EARL HOWE

My Lords, I beg to ask the Question which stands in my name on the Order Paper.

[The Question was as follows:

To ask Her Majesty's Government whether up-to-date figures of the census of vehicles using the more important classified roads of the country are published or could be made available.]

THE EARL OF BIRKENHEAD

My Lords, a pilot census was taken in 1950 covering some 270 points. The main results were made available to the Press at the time. The census indicated that compared with 1938 there was an increase in the number of vehicles on trunk, Class I and Class II roads of 7 per cent. A full Report of the census is now being printed and galley proofs are at the present moment being corrected.

EARL HOWE

My Lords, while thanking the noble Earl for his answer, may I ask him whether it will be possible for such an individual as myself to obtain a copy of the broadsheet referred to?

THE EARL OF BIRKENHEAD

My Lords, I will make it my business to see that the noble Earl does obtain a copy.
