HL Deb 19 June 1951 vol 172 cc118-9
LORD LUCAS OF CHILWORTH

My Lords, this Order is before your Lordships to alter the basis of the levy which was set out in the Lace Industry Levy Order, 1948. The reason for the change is that it has been found front experience more administratively convenient, and also more equitable to the industry, to have the individual incidence of the levy clearly set out in the Order, instead of its being computed by the Board of Trade every three months, as has been done in the past. The main purpose is exactly the same, and in this Order, as in the previous Order, it has received the approval of both sides of industry. I beg to move.

Moved That the Lace Industry (Scientific Research Levy) Order, 1951, reported from the Special Orders Committee on Wednesday last, be approved.—(Lord Lucas of Chilworth.)

On Question, Motion agreed to.
