HL Deb 23 May 1950 vol 167 c385
THE EARL OF HUNTINGDON

My Lords, the object of this Order is to extend the operation of Section 4 of the Agriculture Act, 1947. Unless the period is extended by a year at a time by Order made by the Ministers no Order under that section can have effect after the expiration of three years from the passing of the Act; that is to say, after August 6, 1950. The only Orders so far made under Section 4 (1) of the Act have been Crop Acreage Payment Orders, and the immediate need for this Order is to ensure the validity after August 6, 1950, of the Crop Acreage Payments Orders for England and Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland. I beg to move that this Special Order he now approved.

Moved, That the Special Order, as reported from the Special Orders Committee on Wednesday last, be approved. —(The Earl of Huntingdon.)

On Question, Motion agreed to.
