THE LORD PRIVY SEAL (VISCOUNT ADDISON)

My Lords, I have to report to your Lordships that, in accordance with the order of the House of Tuesday. November 16 last, the most reverend Primate the Archbishop of Canterbury, the noble Viscount, Lord Swinton, the noble Viscount, Lord Samuel, the noble Earl, Lord Rosebery, and myself as Lord Privy Seal and Leader of your Lordships' House, waited upon His Majesty at Buckingham Palace on Friday afternoon last, March 4, and presented to him your Lordships' Address congratulating His Majesty, Her Majesty the Queen and Their Royal Highnesses The Princess Elizabeth and the Duke of Edinburgh, on the birth of a son to Her Royal Highness, The Princess Elizabeth, Duchess of Edinburgh.

His Majesty, who was accompanied by Her Majesty the Queen, and Their Royal Highnesses The Princess Elizabeth, Duchess of Edinburgh, and the Duke of Edinburgh, was graciously pleased to reply as follows:

"I thank you sincerely for your loyal and dutiful Address on the happy event of the birth of a son to my dear daughter, the Princess Elizabeth, Duchess of Edinburgh, and the Duke of Edinburgh.

You have frequently shown the affectionate interest which you take in all that concerns my family and myself, and we have been deeply moved by your congratulations on the birth of our grandson which has given so much pleasure throughout the Commonwealth."
