HL Deb 02 July 1947 vol 149 c768
LORD MANCROFT

I beg to ask His Majesty's Government the question which stands in my name on the Order Paper.

[The question was as follows:

To ask His Majesty's Government, how soon it will be possible to issue the Defence Medal and the War Medal?]

THE SECRETARY OF STATE FOR DOMINION AFFAIRS (VISCOUNT ADDISON)

My Lords, the striking of the Defence Medal will start very soon. Progress is being made with the design of the War Medal. It is hoped that issues may begin within the next twelve months.

LORD MANCROFT

Whilst thanking the noble Viscount for that information may I ask His Majesty's Government whether they will bear in mind the desirability in alloting priority to the issue to those members of the Imperial and Allied Forces who may be entitled to these medals?

VISCOUNT ADDISON

I know that that point is being kept in mind.
