HL Deb 04 December 1946 vol 144 cc629-30
EARL FORTESCUE

My Lords, on behalf of my noble friend Lord Barnby, I beg to ask the other question which he has on the Paper.

[The question was as follows:

To ask His Majesty's Government if, with reference to the proposals fore-shadowed in Command Paper 6527, it is now proposed to arrange for regular publication of figures of stocks, production and consumption for the wool textile industry such as would contribute to assist the policy of regulation of raw wool prices on lines set out in Command Paper 6855 on the establishment of the U.K. Dominion Wool Disposals Ltd., and if so, when commencement can be expected.]

LORD CHORLEY

My Lords, His Majesty's Government fully recognize the need for publishing comprehensive statistics relating to the wool textile industry and is in consultation with representatives of the industry with the object of determining what figures are necessary and how continuity of their collection is to be ensured when the present control procedure is terminated or modified. Figures relating to the industry were published in the Board of Trade Journal for May 18, 1946, and as much information as possible is still being collected. It is hoped to publish in due course a further survey on the lines covered by that published in May.

EARL FORTESCUE

I am very grateful to the noble Lord for the two answers.

House adjourned at eighteen minutes before five o'clock.
