HL Deb 17 April 1946 vol 140 c905

4.38 p.m.

LORD WALERAN

My Lords, I beg to ask the question standing in my name.

[The question was as follows:

To ask His Majesty's Government whether it is a fact that instructions have been, or are being issued by the Minister of Transport to owners of road haulage vehicles to prevent the display on such vehicles of posters against nationalization of the road haulage industry, or upon vehicles operated by the Ministry of Transport Road Haulage Organization.]

LORD WALKDEN

The answer to the noble Lord's question is in the negative.

LORD WALERAN

Arising directly out of that answer, in view of a letter published in the Press to-day, I would like to ask His Majesty's Government whether or not they consider there has been a grave breach of information at the Ministry of Transport.

LORD WALKDEN

I am informed that in some cases labels of the character to which the noble Lord refers have been exhibited on vehicles in the Road Haulage Organization, but my right honourable friend the Minister of Transport has not thought it necessary to intervene.
