HL Deb 13 December 1944 vol 134 c324
THE EARL OF LISTOWEL

Your Lordships will have read the Resolution standing in my name on the Paper to-day, relating to the continuance in force for a period of twelve months of Government rules in the Province of Orissa. Ministerial Government ceased to function in this Province on June 30 of this year, and the Governor made a Proclamation under Section 93 of the Government of India Act which was laid before the House on July 25. The Proclamation remains valid for only six months. It is necessary to seek the approval of both Houses of Parliament for its continuance before December 30. I therefore formally move the Resolution.

Moved to resolve, That this House approves the continuance in force of the Proclamation issued under Section 93 of the Government of India Act, 1935, by the Governor of Orissa on the 30th June, 1944, a copy of which was presented to this House on 25th July, 1944.—(The Earl of Listowel.)

On Question, Motion agreed to.
