HL Deb 20 October 1943 vol 129 cc286-7
LORD DAVIES

My Lords, I beg to ask the question standing in my name on the Paper.

[The question was as follows:

To ask His Majesty's Government, when it is proposed to publish the full text of the various memoranda, reports and other official documents relating to the events and developments in the field of international relationships which 'preceded the outbreak of the war.]

LORD SNELL

My Lords, documents dealing with the period from the 15th March to the 3rd September, 1939, have already been published in Command Paper 6106. The publication of further documents is under consideration but I am not yet in a position to make any statement.

LORD DAVIES

My Lords, arising out of that reply I am sure that my noble friend will realize that in the absence of these documents, we have nothing to fall back on but the distorted version put out by enemy sources. I therefore venture to plead with him that these documents should be released as soon as possible.

LORD SNELL

My Lords, I will see that the noble Lord's suggestion is carried out if possible.
