HL Deb 25 May 1943 vol 127 c644
LORD WEDGWOOD

My Lords, I beg to ask the second question standing in my name.

[The question was as follows:

To ask His Majesty's Government whether His Majesty's Ambassador to the Polish Government had any knowledge of the intention of that Government to appeal to the International Red Cross in connexion with the grave alleged to be found near Smolensk, and, if so, whether he informed His Majesty's Government of the intention.]

VISCOUNT CRANBORNE

My Lords, the reply to this question is that this decision was taken by the Polish Government without any communication to His Majesty's Ambassador.

LORD WEDGWOOD

His Majesty's Ambassador did not know that the step had been taken at all?

VISCOUNT CRANBORNE

I think my answer made the position perfectly clear.
