HL Deb 08 June 1943 vol 127 c887
THE LORD CHANCELLOR (VISCOUNT SIMON)

My Lords, I have to inform the House, with reference to the Resolution which this House adopted on May 18, expressing its high appreciation of the services of all ranks of His Majesty's Forces and of the Forces of the Allies operating in Africa, that I have received the following message from General Eisenhower, from the Allied Headquarters in North Africa, addressed to the Lord Chancellor:

"I have received with pride the text of the Motion passed by the House of Lords on May 18. I ask that you will convey to the members of the House of Lords the thanks of all ranks of the Allied Forces under my command for this generous appreciation of their services. Strengthened by your encouraging message, we look forward with increasing confidence to a future of still greater effort and achievement, until the complete and final destruction of the Axis Forces throughout the world has been attained.

(Signed) Eisenhower."

Ordered, That the said Message be entered on the Journals of the House.
