HL Deb 10 September 1942 vol 124 cc365-6

VISCOUNT SAMUEL had given Notice that he would ask His Majesty's Government when the second Report of the Uthwatt Committee will be published; and whether an indication can be given as to the date when the legislation to carry into effect such recommendations of the Committee as may be accepted by the Government, and to deal with other matters relating to town and country planning, will be presented to Parliament. The noble Viscount said: My Lords, the second Report of the Uthwatt Committee having been published, I do not ask the first part of the question standing in my name, but only the second part.

LORD PORTAL

My Lords, in view of the complexity of the matters dealt with, the Government must carefully study both the Report of the Uthwatt Committee and the Report of Lord Justice Scott's Committee before announcing any decision upon them. In these circum- stances it is quite impossible to state the date when legislation will be introduced.
