§ Lord WEDGWOODMy Lords, I desire to ask the Secretary of State for the Colonies a question of which I have given him private notice—namely, whether he intends to allow the fifteen refugees on the "Milhai" at Istanbul, and the thirteen refugees on the "Euxin," 994 stranded at Cesné, all with relatives in Palestine, to land in that country.
VISCOUNT CRANBORNEMy Lords, the "Milhai" passengers, to the number of eighteen, have now reached Palestine and have been placed in a detention camp in accordance with the usual practice. As regards the "Euxin," which has been reported as stranded at Cesné, near Smyrna, the question of the disposal of the passengers is under consideration.
§ LORD WEDGWOODMy Lords, in thanking the noble Lord for that information, may I ask him whether there is any chance of the "Euxin" passengers being afforded passage to Palestine, and whether we could get information of that published as soon as possible?
VISCOUNT CRANBORNEMy Lords, there can be no question of His Majesty's Government facilitating the passage of these passengers to Palestine as that would be contrary to their declared policy, but I have told the noble Lord that the whole matter of their disposal is under urgent consideration, and I can assure him that that is the case.
