HL Deb 14 April 1942 vol 122 c569
LORD SNELL

My Lords, you will, I know, be sorry to hear that the Lord Chairman of Committees, Lord Onslow, has been advised by his doctors that it is necessary that he should take a rest from all official duties for a few months. It is hoped that he will then be completely restored to health. In the meantime I am asking your Lordships to pass the Motion which I have placed upon the Paper in order to enable Lord Stanmore to discharge the duties of the Lord Chairman in the enforced absence of the noble Earl. As your Lordships will remember, Lord Stanmore has on a previous occasion acted as Lord Chairman while Lord Onslow was resting under doctor's orders. The House is indeed fortunate to be able to avail itself of his services on this occasion, and we are all very much indebted to him for his willingness to act. I beg to move.

Moved, That the Lord Stanmore be appointed to take the Chair in all Committees of this House in the temporary absence of the Earl of Onslow; that the Lord Stanmore do take the Chair in all Committees of the Whole House unless where it shall have been otherwise directed by the House; that the Lord Stanmore do also take the Chair in all Committees upon Private Bills and discharge such other duties as are discharged by the Chairman of Committees unless where it shall have been otherwise directed by the House.—(Lord Snell.)

On Question, Motion agreed to, and ordered accordingly.
