HL Deb 27 November 1940 vol 118 c44
THE EARL OF ONSLOW

My Lords, so far as the Motion which I have now to move is concerned; for the appointment of an India and Burma Orders Committee, your Lordships will see that a very important name has been omitted from the Paper, and the Committee would be rather like Hamlet without the Prince of Denmark if the name of my noble friend the Duke of Devonshire were not included. I therefore move that the noble Lords whose names are on the Paper, together with the Duke of Devonshire, be appointed to form the India and Burma Orders Committee.

Moved, That a Select Committee be appointed to consider all drafts of Orders laid before Parliament under Section 309 of the Government of India Act, 1935, or Section 157 of the Government of Burma Act, 1935, in the present Session; and that the Lords following, with the Chairman of Committees, be named of the Committee:

—(The Earl of Onslow.)

On Question, Motion agreed to.
