HL Deb 18 December 1940 vol 118 c149
THE LORD CHANCELLOR (VISCOUNT SIMON)

My Lords, I have to acquaint your Lordships that I have this day received a telegram from the President of the Egyptian Senate which he requests me to communicate to your Lordships' House. Translated, it is in these terms: In the name of the Egyptian Senate, as well as in my own name, I beg your Lordship to accept and to transmit to the House of Lords our warmest congratulations on the very brilliant victory which has been gained by the valiant British Armies against Italian forces on the Western Frontier of Egypt. This victory, in freeing Egyptian territory, adds a magnificent page to the glorious military annals of Britain and will powerfully contribute to secure the triumph of democracy. MOHAMED MOHAMOUD, EK HALIL, President." The same was ordered to be entered on the Jeurnals of the House.
