HL Deb 04 September 1939 vol 114 c986
EARL STANHOPE

My Lords, the Lord Great Chamberlain has asked me to draw your Lordships' attention to various A.R.P. facilities. Certain rooms on the ground floor marked "A.R.P. Shelter" have already been marked as gas proof. There are also four rooms on this floor over the boiler court which are the Ministers' new rooms, and these can be equally well used as fresh air shelters and are not gas proof. In case of a gas raid and if the gas proof refuges get overcrowded, anyone could use these other rooms, but it would be essential for them to sit in their gas masks. The Harcourt Room has also been detailed as a fresh air shelter.
