HL Deb 22 July 1937 vol 106 c922
THE MARQUESS OF LOTHIAN

My Lords, may I ask the noble Viscount, the Leader of the House, whether he has any statement to make about the business that will be before your Lordships' House next week?

VISCOUNT HALIFAX

My Lords, during the forthcoming week I think that any business now outstanding will be dealt with and, if it has been disposed of by that date, it is hoped to adjourn for the Summer Recess on Friday, July 30. The Motion for the Adjournment will contain the usual provision empowering the Lord Chancellor, upon representations being made to him by His Majesty's Government, to call your Lordships together at an earlier date, if such a course should appear necessary in the public interest. It might also be for your Lordships' convenience if I added that we propose that the House shall reassemble on Thursday, October 21. It is expected that Parliament will be prorogued on that date and that His Majesty will open the new Session of Parliament on Tuesday, October 26. I may perhaps at the same time be allowed to remind your Lordships that, as announced last night, we shall meet to-morrow at midday for the Third Reading of the Factories Bill, and to receive the Milk Bill from another place.

House adjourned at twenty minutes before eight o'clock.
