HL Deb 09 February 1937 vol 104 cc82-3

Order of the Day for the House to be put into Committee read.

Moved, That the House do now resolve itself into Committee.—(The Earl of Lucan.)

On Question, Motion agreed to.

House in Committee accordingly:

[The EARL OF ONSLOW in the Chair.]

Clauses 1 to 4 agreed to.

Clause 5:

Short title, citation and extent.

5.—(1) This Act may be cited as the Unemployment Assistance (Temporary Provisions) (Amendment) Act, 1937, and shall be included among the Acts which may be cited together as the Unemployment Assistance Acts, 1934 to 1937.

(2) This Act shall not extend to Northern Ireland.

THE EARL OF LUCAN moved, in subsection (1), to leave out "shall be included among the Acts which" and insert "this Act and the Unemployment Assistance Acts, 1934 to 1936." The noble Earl said: This is a drafting Amendment. The Bill originally went through another place in 1936, and the date 1936 appeared in each case in this clause. In the reprint made on February 2, 1937, the date 1937 appears instead. It is therefore necessary to alter the drafting in the manner proposed, as until it is made there are no Acts which may be cited together as the Unemployment Assistance Acts, 1934–1937. The second part of the subsection will then read: …this Act and the Unemployment Assistance Acts, 1934 to 1936, may be cited together as the Unemployment Assistance Acts, 1934 to 1937. This is necessary for the reasons I have stated. I beg to move.

Amendment moved—

Page 4, line 11, leave out ("shall be included among the Acts which") and insert ("this Act and the Unemployment Assistance Acts, 1934 to 1936").—(The Earl of Lucan.)

On Question, Amendment agreed to.
