§ LORD RANKEILLOURMy Lords, I beg to ask the Question which stands in my name.
[The Question was as follows: —To ask His Majesty's Government when the Draft Order on proportionate pensions on the premature retirement of officers of the Civil Service in India will be laid before Parliament.]
§ THE SECRETARY OF STATE FOR INDIA (THE MARQUESS OF ZETLAND)My Lords, the rules governing the grant of pensions to civil officers who retire prematurely after Part III of the Government of India Act, 1935, comes into operation are not required to be prescribed by Order in Council but will be made under Section 247 of the Act. Such rules will be made by the Secretary of State with the concurrence of his advisers, and they are not required by the Act to be laid before Parliament. They will, however, be published in the ordinary way in the Statutory Rules and Orders series. I hope that gives my noble friend the information he wants.
§ House adjourned at a quarter past four o'clock.
