§ LORD SNELLMy Lords, is the noble Viscount the Leader of the House able to give us any information about the business for next week?
§ VISCOUNT HALIFAXMy Lords, the further business of the House before we adjourn for Christmas, so far as I can forecast it at present, will be as follows. On Tuesday we propose to take the Second Beading of the Hours of Employment (Conventions) Bill and the Second Reading of the Expiring Laws Continuance Bill, which I hope will reach us from another place for a First Reading at a formal sitting for that purpose to be held on Monday. On Tuesday, I understand, we may expect to receive Bills dealing with loans for public works and the guarantee by the State of loans raised for the purpose of effecting improvements in the main line railways, which, as your Lordships know, is a parallel measure with that passed last Session for the assistance of London Metropolitan transport. On Wednesday we propose to take the Committee stage of the Expiring Laws Continuance Bill, and the Second Readings of the two Bills 234 from another place, of which I have just spoken. There is, as your Lordships know, also on the Paper for Wednesday a Motion standing in the name of the noble Lord, Lord Davies.
On Thursday I propose to ask your Lordships to suspend Standing Orders to enable us to take the remaining stages of the Public Works Loans Bill and the Railways (Agreement) Bill. We also propose to take the Third Reading of the Expiring Laws Continuance Bill. It may perhaps be necessary to ask your Lordships to meet a little earlier than usual that day, Thursday, as we hope to arrange for a Royal Commission that afternoon in order to enable your Lordships to adjourn for Christmas that afternoon. That, I think, will be for the general convenience rather than postponing the Adjournment until Friday.
§ House adjourned at five minutes past five o'clock.
