HL Deb 05 June 1934 vol 92 cc788-9
THE LORD CHANCELLOR

My Lords, I have to acquaint your Lordships' House that by virtue of the power granted to me as Lord Chancellor by the Statute 5, George IV, chapter 82, Section 3, I have appointed Robert Leslie Overbury, Esquire, to be your Lordships' Reading Clerk and Clerk of Outdoor Committees in the place of Montagu Ronald Alfred Muir Mackenzie, Esquire, who has been appointed Clerk Assistant. Mr. Overbury has for many years been an official in the Lord Chancellor's Department. During that perioe, he was Secretary of Commissions, in which capacity from time to time he saw the Lords-Lieutenant of all the counties of England and Wales. Doubtless Mr. Oveibury is well known to many of your Lordships who are Lords-Lieutenant. The skill and tact with which he has discharged perhaps the most difficult duties which fall to any of the younger officials of the Lord Chancellor's Department make me feel confident that he will adequately perform the duties attaching to his new office. I beg to move: That this House do approve the appointment of Robert Leslie Overbury, Esquire, to be their Lordships' Reading Clerk and Clerk of Outdoor Committees in the place of Montagu Ronald Alfred Muir Mackenzie, Esquire, who has been appointed Clerk Assistant.

Moved accordingly, and, on Question, Motion agreed to nemine dissentiente.
