After Clause 11, page 10, line 21, at end insert the following new clause:

Amendment of 2 Geo. 5. s. 3.

(". Subsection (1) of Section three of the Shops Act, 1912 (which relates to the provision of seats for female shop asistants), shall have effect as if there were inserted at the end thereof the words ' and it shall be the duty of the occupier of the shop to permit the female shop assistants so employed to make use of such seats when-even the use thereof does not interfere with their work, and the occupier shall in the prescribed manner and in the prescribed form give notice informing such shop assistants that they are intended to do so.'")

THE EARL OF FEVERSHAM

My Lords, this new clause amends Section 3 of the Shops Act, 1912, which relates to the provision of seats for female shop assistants. The new clause makes it the duty of the occupier to permit the use of the seats whenever that does not interfere with the assistants' work. The occupier has also to give notice in the prescribed form and manner to his assistants that they are intended to use the seats. I beg to move that this House doth agree with the Commons in the said Amendment.

Moved, That this House doth agree with the Commons in the said Amendment.—(The Earl of Feversham.)

On Question, Motion agreed to.
