§ EARL DE LA WARRMy Lords, I beg to move that the House do now adjourn until Monday next at 3 o'clock.
§ Moved, That the House do now adjourn till Monday next at 3 o'clock.—(Earl De La Warr.)
§ VISCOUNT HAILSHAMMy Lords, I do not know whether the noble Earl can state when the Report stage of this Bill will be taken.
§ EARL DE LA WARROn Tuesday.
§ VISCOUNT HAILSHAMI do not know whether the noble Earl can give us any 1156 more information as to one or two other agricultural measures in which he is interested and which, I suppose, will be coming before us some day next week. I should very much like to know about the Agricultural Land (Utilisation) Bill.
§ EARL DE LA WARRIt is proposed to take the Commons Amendments to the Improvement of Live Stock Bill on Monday, the next stage of the Agricultural Marketing Bill on Tuesday and the Commons Amendments to the Agricultural Land (Utilisation) Bill after that.
§ VISCOUNT HAILSHAMOn the same day?
§ EARL DE LA WARRYes, and the Small Landholders and Agricultural Holdings (Scotland) Bill too. It is first on the Order Paper for that day.
§ VISCOUNT HAILSHAMAs we are going to have a field day on Tuesday on these agricultural topics, might it not be advisable to meet at three o'clock on that day? I only ask because it is convenient that we should be informed of it as soon as possible so that noble Lords can make their arrangements.
§ EARL DE LA WARRI think that was anticipated.
§ LORD HASTINGSMight I ask whether it would be possible for the Improvement of Live Stock Bill to be taken off the early part of the Order Paper on Monday and put down later, as I find it impossible to be in the House before a quarter past five on that day?
§ EARL DE LA WARRI think it would be necessary to suspend the Standing Orders to do that, but if the House raises no objection—
§ LORD HASTINGSIts appearance in the early part of the Order Paper is surely fortuitous and it would be just as easy to put it down later without suspending Standing Orders, would it not?
§ VISCOUNT HAILSHAMI think there is a difficulty about doing that without suspending Standing Orders. We are making our arrangements at rather short notice and under considerable pressure, and I think it would be for the convenience of noble Lords who are interested in a particular Bill to take it at a time convenient to them and to 1157 suspend Standing Orders for the purpose. The only thing is that Notice must be given.
§ EARL DE LA WARRI will consider that. I do not think there would be any objection from our side of the House.
§ VISCOUNT HAILSHAMIt is only in order to arrange what must be a rather heavy week so as to meet the convenience of as many of their Lordships as possible. It is obvious that there will be conflicting interests, as there always is.
§ THE UNDER-SECRETARY OF STATE FOR WAR (LORD MARLEY)My Lords, in all probability it would suit the convenience of the House to suspend Standing Order No. XXI and to put the Improvement of Live Stock Bill lower down on the Paper in view of the debate which we are having on the Unemployment Insurance (No. 3) Bill.
§ On Question, Motion agreed to.
§ House adjourned at a quarter before two o'clock.
