HL Deb 29 May 1930 vol 77 c1188

Clause 6, page 7, line 39, after ("to") insert ("investigate the needs of their area and to take such steps as they consider necessary to").

EARL RUSSELL

My Lords, this is a little more than drafting. The clause as originally drafted imposed on local authorities the duty to provide accommodation for the reception of temporary patients. By this Amendment the duty is converted into a power. The local authorities are not ordered actually to do it, but merely to take into consideration the needs of their area and then to take such steps as they think necessary.

Moved, That this House doth agree with the Commons in the said Amendment.—(Earl Russell.)

On Question, Motion agreed to.
